Postpartum Well-Being Guide

Postpartum GuideI believe the one area of a mother’s well being that is least supported (truly, in real life, supported, not just “talked about”) is her mental and emotional postpartum health. And not just in the couple days after birth stretch, but in the months, possibly years, after birth.

This guide will begin to explore some of the ways to become more aware and and help support optimal postpartum emotional and mental wellness.

    1. Hello Marta!

I am so glad you are here- and that you shared. I am very sure so many other mothers feel similar to you. There certainly could be a number of reasons why you are feeling so badly- and underneath your hormones are surely reacting and off-kilter- they are like exquisite mirrors of what is happening with all the areas of our well being. I hope you took a moment to download the guide- and I’d also encourage you to reach out in your community in any way you can- do you have a local circle of women that you could connect with? Or perhaps it is just one dear friend you stay close in touch with…Also do you have any support with health practitioners in your area that understand and are sensitive to a mother’s emotional well-being? It is so crucial to care for YOU right now as you care for your little one. Sending my love…

  2. This couldn’t be more timely! I have a 14 month old, and have had several months of mood swings and anxiety, just general feelings of overwhelm. I went through a similar period when my first child was about the same age. I was wondering if it was related to weaning. I have been seeing a naturopathic physician and she tested my hormone levels at mid-cycle and all seemed normal, but all signs still point to that, in my opinion. In addition, I have my period this week and have been especially prone to weepiness and anger. She has been running a spectrum of tests on me and so far all seem normal, but it still just seems to me that it has to be hormonal in nature. In general, I have not felt like myself since my first child was born almost 4 yrs ago, like I still haven’t figured out how to adjust to the new normal and make my life flow again. I can’t seem to figure out if this is just a crazy stage of life (I work FT outside the home as well) and will pass as they get older, or if there is more going on with me, like this, for example.

    1. Dear Laura,
referring to my own experience, if you have been experiencing this feeling of not being fit throughout all this time since your first pregnancy it might be a good idea to consider checking your thyroid more closely. It took me ten precious years of my life with my kids to find out that my pregnancies had triggered Hashimoto’s disease, which leads to underperformance in many ways. There is a lot of useful advice on a popular expert’s site: Mary Shomon.
I would be very grateful if this could help you take the right steps including herbs and nutrition to finally feel better again!
      All the best, Heide
      @ Lisa
Thanks for bringing up this very important topic, Lisa. There is such a lot of ignorance among even gynecologists about why we feel as we feel. And it’s mostly not our psyche! Thanks again.
