Earlier this week my hard drive died. Kaput. I don’t even really understand what a hard drive is, but I now know it holds everything that was on your computer. And when it dies, so does all your files. (Unless of course you have boy scout blood and dutifully back up your files nightly…which, squirm-blush, I do not.)
Alas, I now have a new hard drive and have been working on getting myself all set up again, so I thought today would be a good day to post the 7 Things About Me write up. I was tagged a couple weeks ago from Sherri at Serene Journey (have you checked out her fantastic blog yet?). I always enjoy reading personal tid-bits about the authors of blogs I read, so I said I’d play too.
1. I don’t do yoga (at least not very well)…my joints are just not limber and my mind is not nearly as calm and patient as a yoga class requires. But I do love to hike and take long walks in the woods and I find in those times my mind can clear itself from the busyness and chatter in no time.
2. My favorite Ben and Jerry flavor is Chocolate Fudge Brownie…and in close second is Cherry Garcia. Most times though, my ideal desert is a frozen chocolate covered banana.
3. During my college years in California I had 9 best friends that did everything together– and we are still very close. We have yearly reunion trips, share a blog together, and are now having babies along side each other even though we live across different states and oceans. Being back home in New Jersey, I spend most of my time with my best friend from grade school. I consider my girlfriends to be one of my most valuable treasures in life.
4. One of my dreams is to hike the Inca Trail to Macchu Pichu.
5. I love to paint and once had a gallery showing in California.
6. Some of my favorite smells are desert sage, freshly cut grass, a summer rain on hot asphalt, my daughter’s breath, frankincense, and any citrus smell (tangerine, grapefruit, lemon).
7. We just bought a house! This past weekend, during the home inspection, we found a robin’s nest with four gorgeous bright blue eggs in the outside window sill of one of the rooms. Beautiful.
Now, I would absolutely LOVE to hear about YOU– what are some little things about you? Mention whatever you’d like…I can’t wait to read them!
Hi Lisa,
This is great I love getting to know the people behind the blogs I love as well! Congrats on your new house how exciting. Thanks for sharing 7 things about yourself with us I can’t wait to hear all about your hike to Machu Picchu 😉
Oh, fun! Sorry to hear about your HD, good reason to have a back-up! Which, um, we don’t necessarily have either…
Let’s see…
1. I love to read, almost HAVE to be reading something every day, even it’s just a few words before I go to sleep…I’ll even read labels on things if there’s nothing else.
2. I’ve chewed my fingernails ever since I can remember…it’s a disgusting habit and I wish I didn’t, but have never been able to kick it. Sigh.
3. I recently took up painting…I’ve enjoyed painting rocks for the cactus/rock garden…maybe not that good at it (I’m certainly not having any gallery showings any time soon! LOL!), but lots of fun!
4. Our family has lived in this house now since August…it was the 14th move in about 2 1/2 years…missionary life can definitely be challenging at times!
5. My family is from Oklahoma, I was born in Pennsylvania, grew up in Colombia, South America, married a Venezuelan, am now a resident of Arkansas, and live in Mexico…typical MKness for you! I get confused when asked “So, where are you from?”
6. I once spent the night in the jungle, lost, with my dad…don’t recommend it.
7. I have a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education, but have never really used it for classroom teaching because I am a SAHM (or SAHMissionary as my friend Joy puts it…) for my four kids…
Congrats on your house! And sorry about your hard drive.. =( That happened to me last year and it was frustrating.
About Me: In my 5 person household, we have four nationalities represented: American, British, Liberian, and Indian!
Jamie
Becky! My goodness, lost in the jungle?! I loved hearing about all the places you’ve lived too– you must be a pro at putting a home together 🙂
Jamie– that is fantastic! How many languages does your household speak?
wow lisa, it sounds like you have such nice friends!
what you need is an IT husband! that is, a husband that does computers! that is what my hubby does as his profession. and although his computer-ness drives me nuts, i know that *somewhere* down in our basement where he has his office, there is *something* that holds all the information from all our computers in case our hard drives die that horrible death. wow. how smart did i just NOT sound?
something about me?
i just started reading blogs about six months ago. and almost every sentence i begin starts with, “on the blogs i read….” i find so much inspiration and knowledge and creativity on my favorite blogs. i love them. they have become my friends, these blogs.
i did childcare in my home for 15+ years. not cause i loved it, but because it was a way to stay home with my kids. well, we recently moved 15 miles down the road to another town that is way less expensive (our rent was $1450 and now our mortage is under $1000!) and now i’m a real SAHM! one of my (own) children is in young 5s (pre-kindergarten) where we used to live so i spend 3 hours at the library, monday – friday, while i wait for him to get out of school and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE LIBRARY!
i have children that are 19 (twin daughters), 13, and 5. at the age of 40, i was unprepared for having 19 year old girls who are making decisions that aren’t so smart. it’s hard to learn how to deal with that. something you’re really not prepared for.
as i prepared to turn 40, and am no 40, i’m dedicated to learning about me. i’d lost me somewhere over the past 20 years.
off to eat grilled burgers….
jamie
i love learning about living more simply from the blogs i adore. learning about living debt free and how to get there.
