What life is telling you when chaos starts to surface

We are about a month into my year-long program and something so predictable I could set my clock to it is coming up for the women in the group.

I call it the “push back” or resistance that begins when forward movement in our lives begins to take place.

Have you ever felt that whenever you finally commit to making positive changes, out of nowhere, chaotic circumstances start to take over?

Maybe you set out to eat healthier and lose weight, and all of a sudden the kids come down with a cold, you start arguing with your husband and your boss asks you to take on a stressful new project.

If you are like most of us, you don’t always connect one thing to the other…but inevitably, these challenges blindside you and derail you from your original focus and goals.

What if I told you that there is a physical, biochemical reason for this?

And that, in fact, it is the surest sign you are ramping your life up for a new, higher level of being?

I’m tackling this issue head on in this week’s video- and sharing exactly how to ride through this initial change phase so you can get into smoother waters and catapult yourself into exceeding your goals once and for all.

  1. The video was fascinating. The ‘swimming in the ocean’ visual made it very real for me. I can imagine standing in the water and feeling the pull of the water under my feet with the wave coming towards me, pushing me backwards. I can’t think of a good example off the top of my head but I am sure I have experienced these set backs. I am going to remember the ‘vibrating at a higher energy level’ in the future. Thank you Lisa! I also loved the impromptu-ness of the video and your son at the end. I think that is part of why I love your classes – they’re so very real and not over-produced – in a good way!! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. You are so welcome, Robin! You’ll see now that you have a “name” for it, you’ll notice it much more when it happens again and can handle it in a completely different way ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Thank you Lisa! This video came at the perfect moment for me. I have been making great progress in the past few months and have hit many areas of resistance that have slowed me down or pushed me back. The past few weeks have been a time of growth and focus and I’m once again hitting resistance. It is wonderful to get this message on a Monday morning and to be able to embrace the resistance as a part of the larger process. The message will help me stay true to my goals and not get distracted or pushed over by the resistance. I too appreciated the analogy to the waves in the ocean… it is a great way to visualize this struggle.

    Thank you!

    1. You’re welcome, Eileen! Isn’t it fantastic to reframe it and see it as a positive thing?!

  3. Thank you so much Lisa. This is the first time that having a set back has been explained in such a clear and positive way. I am constantly being pulled back and get frustrated with myself, but you have made something click inside of me that when I meet resistance that it is common for everyone and with recognizing it you can move past it. Thanks again!

    1. You are so welcome, Susan! Yes, isn’t knowing its source and that it is common for everyone free you up to be kind to yourself and push through to a better place?!

  4. Your video made so much sense to me! I started grad school in the fall, and was experiencing all sorts of anxiety about whether it was the right choice or not. Now that I have completed about 10 weeks of my coursework, things are much smoother.

I love the concept of the energy exchange when you move to a different place in life. It makes complete sense. Additionally, if we think about the energy that we emit on a daily basis with our children, families, co-workers, and friends, we can make an greater impact on their lives than we might think, just by our level of positive energy.

    Thanks – 15 minutes well spent! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Lisa, this was so interesting and also comes at such a good time for me. I am currently making the transition from full-time mom to getting back to my entrepreneurial passions and starting a completely new business in a new field, and let me tell you, there is plenty of resistance coming my way. But I absolutely loved the wave analogy because it resonated so much with me. As a kid, I was always one of the strongest swimmers among my peers and one of the gutsiest when it came to braving the waves on the California coast where I spent summers….so not only did I totally get your analogy, but re-imagining myself there and remembering the mix of adrenalin and empowerment it gave me has cheered me up considerably! ๐Ÿ™‚ I think that your advice about expecting to be pushed back, but taking small steps until you reach that place where you can cruise for a while makes so much sense. I will make a real effort to keep this in mind. Great insight, thank you so much.

Lisa! Just watched this video and I feel like it was great for me as I get back on track with DFW this week. I love the analogy of swimming in the ocean, getting knocked around by the waves, but still, our general direction, little by little, is forward. I think, personally, I am so often overwhelmed and discouraged by how far I feel like I need to go in my journey towards better health, that at the first big “wave”, I say, “See? It’s just too hard to get there.” Instead of embracing little victories, setting little goals. Recognizing that there’s going to be those waves. I have to remind myself how much better it feels to be on the journey, even if it is long, than how it feels to be where I am right now ( or was!)

    Thank you, as always!!

  7. Loved the ocean analogy. The visual was really helpful to me, too! It really clicked for me, the idea that once past the initial resistance, the waves in the ocean are more manageable, not so overwhelming. That once I am consistent with better habits, I won’t be so easily derailed. I know in the past, in certain circumstances, I’ve spent a lot of time getting pushed back onto the beach, seeing resistance as more of an immoveable mountain than something as yielding as water. I’ve made a commitment to exercising on a consistent schedule – this visual will definitely help keep me moving forward!

  8. Thanks so much for this! I honestly thought that it was just me. I have attempted several changes recently and have fallen back into old routines. Now, I’m going to take your advice. Thanks again! I totally needed this today ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Thank you Lisa, this was the first time I watched a video of yours, and it made a lot of sense. I’ve been experiencing a setback as well and it helped me look at it from a different perspective : ) Thanks and love from Greece.

  10. Thank you Lisa! I appreciate you taking the time to share this information. This has been happening since I have been making positive changes in my life. It is so great to know that I am not the only one! I will certainly remember this when the next set back comes…which it will come. ๐Ÿ™‚
