I'm so glad that my family is not as dysfunctional as I've been feeling! We are crazy during meal times--scolding, getting up, having to go do something in the middle of eating, etc. I think you are right, it may be because we "the parents" are frenetic and not focusing on the meal and the kids. We always seem to be having to correct the kids and we get into punishment mode so quickly, then the kids get into the testing us mode and we spiral down from there.... I'm going to try calming some things down and attempting to rescue our family meal time with these ideas. thanks!

Well, I think that with toddlers, preschoolers, and other young children, there will always be some tense moments around the table...but I like the idea that we can be laying foundations for the future and that maybe things will get better as they get older. :) Means there's hope! And I really do enjoy preparing good food and watching my kids enjoy it...
